I was facing knee replacement surgery after months of no exercise, and I was aware that the stronger my muscles were at surgery, the quicker they would recover their strength. I set out to find a convenient, affordable exercise class. It wasn't easy, but I did.
I knew I was in the right place when Jason Aziz, fitness coordinator for Concord Hospital, said to me, "Nobody tells you that pre-op exercise is just as important as post-op exercise." Aziz and Lynne Avery run a class called Senior Strength at Concord Hospital's Center for Health Promotion two mornings a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 9:30. A perfect fit for me.

Jason Aziz is an exercise physiologist at Concord Hospital and holds a Master of Science Degree in Kinesiology from the University of New Hampshire. He has worked in the health and fitness industry for over 20 years, working with athletic populations and people with chronic diseases. Aziz has observed that those challenged with a cancer diagnosis seem to be some of the most motivated in his clinical population. He says, When a true test of an individuals strength presents itself, the patient often sees amazing things happen things which they may have thought never were possible. He plans to convey his insights into what he calls the human spirit that which motivates all of us to persevere so that providers can, in turn, convey this to their patient populations.
