Be a Health care Hypocrite. Or at least a Medicine-Minimalist.

It is important to define YOUR philosophy on your personal health care.  Too many times, I have heard a patient say, my doctor said that I have to take this medication.  Whereas there may be a perfectly sound reason for the recommendation of this medicinal treatment, you must ask yourself some very important questions.

Firstly, the big question is:  Is this drug absolutely necessary to treat the condition?

Is there another more conservative treatment that I should explore, before succumbing to the chemical Gods?

Second question:  How long will I be under the influence of this medication?  Many medications that use enzyme inhibition as their targeted action, do require long, sometimes indefinite treatment courses.  Do you want to commit to taking this medication for the long term?  If your answer to this question is NO, then, try to seek an alternative, non-chemical means to treat a given condition.  There is usually one, or more than one out there.

Third question: What are the documented side effects?  How will this medication interact with others that I am on.  Are you being informed of all of the possibilities?  Don't count on the pharmaceutical company to tell you about all of the bad things that their million dollar baby does?  They tend to focus on the positives!
