Muscles have elastic properties…some rely on this elasticity more than others. The hamstrings, for example, are very tendonous, and have heavy, thick elastic components… the opposing (antagonistic) muscle, the quadriceps, are more fleshy, and much less elastic, generally speaking.
This disparity in elasticity between these two, very integrally-related, muscle groups, often results in what some people slangly-term, 'tight hamstrings'. Over time, this situation applies undue and non-uniform (compressive) stress to the lumbar vertebral bodies, and can result in symptoms…spasmodic or discogenic (muscle spasms and/or disc sxs).
